NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 19, 2007) — Following a recent GRAMMY nomination and far-reaching coverage by outlets including
The Associated Press and USA Today last week, Michael W. Smith concludes his
acclaimed, “It’s A Wonderful Christmas” tour with special guests Melinda Doolittle and The Katinas. Each evening’s show featured a
65-piece symphony orchestra under the direction of David Hamilton.
The tour sold out seven consecutive shows beginning in Dallas at the Myerson Center, the home of the Dallas Symphony. This was a return performance after two sold out show there the year before.
Following Dallas were sold out shows in Edmonton, Alberta Canada at the Winspear Centre for Music, the home of the Edmonton Orchestra. This too was a return performance after two sold-out shows in that market in 2005. Additional sold-out dates include Portland, Seattle and two shows in Smith’s hometown, Nashville, Tennessee.
“I love performing with a symphony; it’s incredible, night after night, to get to hear an orchestra fill a room with music – and Christmas music! Melinda and The Katinas are amazing talents and wonderful people to tour with. We all had a great time,” says Smith, of the run.
Over his 24-year career as a recording artist, Michael W. Smith has amassed an impressive catalog of achievements. His 20 albums have garnered multiple honors including an American Music Award, 3 GRAMMY Awards (from 13 nominations) and 40 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. In addition, he holds 16 Gold and 5 Platinum albums, 31 No.1 radio hits, and has been named one of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful People. Smith has also scored several film projects and written 11 books. His tours consistently rank among the best attended in the country and he has performed to capacity crowds throughout the world. Constantly giving back to the community, one of his current projects is Rocketown -- a nightclub for teens in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn. -- which serves as safe place for young people to enjoy music and for artists to be discovered. He is married to Debbie Smith and they are the proud parents of five children.
